Since 1997, Andrew Yu Su Cheng has been a key initiator of the Chinese New Wave Film Movement. His films were screened at over 30 film festivals,won prestigious prizes at Rotterdam (Grand Prix FIPRESCI), Vancouver (Dragons & Tigers), Berlin (Nomination Award), etc., exhibited in MoMA, Lincoln Centre and Centre Georges Pompidou, and broadcast on BBC, Channel Four, CBS, and China’s Central Television Station.

In 2012 Andrew was named by Sight and Sound as “the world’s finest film directors to find out the Ten Greatest Films of All Time.” In 2014, his latest road movie Zero Thousand Li Under the Clouds and Moon was listed in Time Out’s 100 Best Chinese Films of All Time, as voted by international experts on Chinese cinema.

Andrew is the recipient of Australian Prime Minister’s Australia-Asia Endeavour Award, holding a PhD in Film from The Victorian College of the Arts, the University of Melbourne, as well as a PhD in Buddhism and Chinese Philosophy from Peking University.

Andrew joins Monash University as an adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture.
